In a spectacular restoration, Hickman Memorial Hall has proudly resumed its place as a centerpiece of the historic town of Graniteville, SC. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Graniteville was home to a community of mill workers from about 1849 until an early-2000s tragic railroad accident caused the mill to close. Graniteville is now under development as a historic destination and mixed-use community.
Hickman Hall was built by the mill’s owner in 1907 for the townspeople’s enrichment. Its uses included an employment office, community center, swimming pool, two bowling alleys, a library and a dance hall, and it was the hub of town social events in the early 20th century. After long disuse, Hickman Hall has been richly restored. With its stained-wood coffered ceilings, daylit galleries and pristine exteriors, it is a shining example of a Classical Revival building.
As Project Manager & Project Architect, Anne Michael led the design documentation from concept through construction documents and was the day to day contact for the contractor and client.
